Kerk Henderson

Head creative director for Commacross, with a background in computer sciences, photography and videography, Kerk is an expert at taking ideas from inception to completion.

Academic Research

While an intern at the University of the West Indies, Kerk worked with a team from the Department of Physics and CREST research group to develop an online web portal for the agricultural simulation softwares DESSAT and AquaCrop. This system allowed non-technical personnel to run simulations through a user-friendly interface. This allowed agricultural clients to have access to highly accurate simulations to inform their planting decisions.

Visual Product Design

Working through Commacross, Kerk created visualisations to guide the creation of a “Safe Media Use” rubric for the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica. This was done to create a visual framework to examine the how the “openness” of social media apps intersects with varied levels of user control. This work was then used to update the standing protocols for online media safety regulations.

VIdeo Direction

Tasked with the creation of an independently produced music video, Kerk developed the idea to shoot the video over the course of a year to allow for footage to be collected across four seasons. This video was then directed/shot over the period 2022 – 2023, and edited to completion in 2025 with assistance from overseas collaborators. It was released in April of 2025. As the creative director for Commacross, Kerk was in charge of moving this project through each stage and organising the publishing of the project.

Fashion and design

Kerk’s early interest in fashion and design began as a teenager, sketching and making utilitarian alterations to regular everyday clothing. Years later having developed a keen eye for outfitting and stylistic choices this hobby has become a career pillar, strengthened by stints with JD Sports PLC and later H&M as a visual merchandiser. While working with JD Sports he worked out of various mega/hub stores as an in store merchandiser ensuring the styling protocols and standards were upheld in these high traffic stores. He also managed and trained staff in the upkeep of styling standards. During his time with H&M he collaborated with the styling of different levels of the Oxford Street store in central London and assisted with preparations for the September 2024 brand relaunch. After their time working with these companies Kerk has spent time styling for artists and developing person style options and commissioned pieces for private clients.
